About this Destination

Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg is an extraordinary miniature world and model railway attraction that has earned the distinction of being Germany's most popular tourist destination. Founded by twin brothers Frederik and Gerrit Braun in 2000, this remarkable exhibit opened its doors to the public in 2001 and has since expanded to encompass over 1,500 square meters of display space. The attraction features over 15,400 meters of track and showcases meticulously detailed reproductions of various regions, including Hamburg, Scandinavia, America, Switzerland, and Italy. One of the most impressive features is the fully functional miniature airport, which simulates realistic takeoffs and landings of more than 40 different model aircraft. The exhibit also incorporates a day-night cycle that changes every 15 minutes, transforming the lighting throughout the display. The level of detail is astounding, with over 260,000 figurines, 4,340 buildings, and 9,250 vehicles, each carefully positioned to create dynamic, lifelike scenes. Visitors can discover countless hidden vignettes and humorous scenarios embedded throughout the exhibits. The attraction continues to grow, with planned expansions to include representations of additional countries and regions. Located in Hamburg's historic Speicherstadt warehouse district (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Miniatur Wunderland attracts approximately 1.4 million visitors annually and has become an iconic symbol of German craftsmanship and attention to detail.
